Industry competence
The work on an oil rig or on an extraction platform is among the most physically taxing and dangerous work in the world. At the same time, today's industry and society strongly depends on mineral oil and natural gas. Many things of everyday life are based - almost invisibly - on mineral oil, from the synthetic fibers of our clothes to the plastic bottles from which we drink, up to lipstick.
It is therefore all the more important for the supply chain to function flawlessly. This already starts with the oil drilling pipes that are used to drill for new oil and gas fields. For these demanding and extremely material-stressing requirements, faultless material is indispensable. Faultless material is equally important for preventing dangerous environmental damage that can occur due to leaks. FOERSTER's decades-long experience in testing hot-rolled rods and pipes make us the perfect partner.

Application example
To reach the black gold, drilling pipes have to penetrate deep into the earth.
For medium-deep drilling of around 2000 m in depth, approximately 222 pipes of 9 m each are required. A new pipe has to be screwed on every 9 m. This work, which was previously done by hand, is now performed by machines - not the least due to the high risk of injury. Nowadays, it takes 1.5 to 4 minutes to change a pipe. If the drill bit is worn or faulty, the entire piping has to be pulled first.
The material has to withstand a lot and be durable. Faultless material that meets international standards is thus essential. For this reason, FOERSTER has developed test equipment that is specially adapted to the high requirements of oil drilling pipes. The ROTOMAT and TRANSOMAT check material reliably for longitudinal and transverse defects.
Directional drilling uses a compass that – as with many other sensors – is directly integrated in the drilling pipes. To prevent the compass from being diverted, it is essential to use non-magnetic materials, which is ensured by the MAGNETOMAT.
On an oil drilling platform, it can be necessary to check a used pipe to see if it can be utilized again. For this case, FOERSTER also offers the right solution: the mobile MAGNETOSCOP can check oil drilling pipes at any time and any place. We make quality visible – even under the most adverse conditions.
